mlk library groundbreaking ceremony

I hope to include a number of entries on public libraries because libraries are one of my favorite places.  They are probably the institutions that come the closest to accepting everyone who walks through their doors.

I starting going to MLK at least as early as 1980, while I was in high school.  I remember when there was a small store off of the lobby.  I remember when there was a bookstore in the middle of the great hall.  I volunteered there during my book collecting days.  Amazingly, there are library staff that I recognize from my high school days!

Who attended the groundbreaking ceremony on 31 january 1968?

Who was involved in the campaign to name it after Martin Luther King, Jr.?

Who was there on 21 August 1972 when the library opened?

Share your memories of MLK Library.
