Madge Darneille, age 96, was vegetarian in 1968

The photograph above was taken on Sunday 22 January 2017.  In the center is Madge Darneille, who is 96 years old.  In 1968, she was president of the Vegetarian Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC), Founded in 1927, VSDC is the oldest extant vegetarian society in the U.S. (Full disclosure:  I am a current member and past board member of VSDC.)

Madge is flanked by other VSDC presidents:  David Schneider (on the left), Larry Miller and Saurabh Dalal.

DC has supported vibrant vegan & vegetarian individuals and spaces for decades:  restaurants, cafes, co-ops, warehouses, classes, health food stores and more.

Were you a vegan or vegetarian in 1968?

Were you part of the burgeoning co-op movement that led to the founding of Glut Food Co-op (now in Mount Rainier, MD)?

Did you have a garden in 1968?
