mlk library closes 4 march for 3+ years

The one-week countdown begins today for the closing of MLK Library for renovation.  It will be closed for at least three years.

sigh.

While the library can benefit from renovation, it's hard to think of it being closed for three long years.  There are contingency plans for people who are homeless and others who rely on the library every day.  Read them here.

I am going to miss most the closing of the Washingtoniana Division, where I  have been doing considerable research for dc1968.  I will try to get in as many hours as I can before Saturday @5:30pm.

Washingtoniana is planning to make materials available at other repositories, including the Historical Society of Washington, DC and the Library of Congress, during the renovation period..  This will happen some time in the spring.
