phyllis wheatley ywca ribbon cutting, 23 June
The Phyllis Wheatley YWCA ribbon cutting took place on Friday 23 June. It had been under renovation for several years. After a complete renovation, the 80+ residents can enjoy living in beautiful digs--rent free!!! Now that's what I call affordable housing.
The Wheatley Y, founded by the Book Lovers Club in 1905, was the city's first Y. This building, at the northwest corner of 9th & Rhode Island, NW, was built in 1920.
Do you have memories of the 'Y' in 1968?
