anacostia community museum celebrates 50th anniversary on 15 sept
On Friday 15 September 2017, the Anacostia Community Museum will celebrate its 50th anniversary with an all-day open house. The museum opened--as the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum--on 15 September 1967.
"As we reflect on 50 years of providing thought-provoking exhibitions and public programs and look forward to continuing to be a place that convenes conversations and sparks dialogue through its offerings, the museum will celebrate with an Open House. This day will prove to be a fun day full of live performances, henna and caricature artists, and a program that features a portrayal of the museum’s founding director, Dr. John Kinard, followed by a book talk about his life by his daughter, Dr. Joy Kinard, and a gospel tribute. There will be other performances throughout the day and it will prove to be a celebratory homecoming to all who have made many contributions to the museum over the last five decades. Free."
