black power chronicles presents children's art festival on saturday

ArtSpeaks: It's A Youth Thing Children's Art Festival will take place this Saturday 30 September from 11am to 5pm at the African American Civil War Museum, 1925 Vermont Avenue, NW, across from the U Street metro.

"The festival will present the arts and ideas of the Black Power and the Black Arts Movements through music, dance, poetry, storytelling, and crafts."

There will be:

  • live entertainment
  • face painting
  • photo booth
  • game zone
  • art workshops
  • exhibition
  • raffle drawings
  • and much more!

The event is sponsored by Black Power Chronicles (BPC), whose purpose is "to cast an introspective historic lens on the movement as experienced in communities, nationally and internationally from the perspective of those Black Power veterans and supporters who helped shape the ideas, programs and legacy."

BPC is both honoring and continuing the legacy of The New Thing Art & Architecture Center, founded in DC c1967 by Topper Carew, with its focus on young people.
