13 october 1968 & pride landscaping & gardening business

#OTD 13 October 1968 Pride Landscaping & Gardening was one of four business enterprises run by Pride Inc. (1536 U St, NW), an organization co-founded by Marion Barry, Carroll Harvey, Mary Treadwell, among others, in July 1967, as a "youth-run corporation" and "job training program" to help "hard-core dudes become self-sufficient." The other businesses were the Pride Automotive Center, Inc; Pride Artco, Inc.; and Pride Painting and Maintenance Co.

In August 1968, Pride received $3.8 million dollars from the U.S. Labor Department to support its businesses and job training program.

Your comments are welcome below. Did you work for the landscaping & gardening business? Where did you work? What do you remember about Pride and the other employees? Do you remember how much you were paid per hour? Did you have a uniform? Did you have work identification? Do you still have them? Do you have photographs? You can also contact me privately here.
