#OTD 14 November 1968 The Toward a Black University Conference at Howard University was in its second of five days. Acklyn Lynch, HU professor, was the ideator and faculty coordinator.

Lynch stated in an interview:

“Our aim is for the minds of our people.”

”[I expect that] Black people from around the country [will] come and examine the problems of education as they affect the black community.”

“The liberation struggle is freeing our people from the historical past, that is, racism, lack of self-confidence, acquiescence to the status quo, and the disbelief in the fact that Black people have the ability to deal with their problems among themselves.

Your comments are welcome below. Did you, family members or neighbors work with Acklyn Lynch on the conference? Did you have Lynch as a professor? What class (es) did you take? What do you remember about him in 1968? Do you have photographs and other materials from the conference? Do you have photographs and other materials from your tenure at Howard?
