3 december 1968 & bus boycott 2
#OTD 3 December 1968 This photograph of a van with bus boycott signs—a black fist in a hitchhiking gesture—was in circulation after the Monday 2 December bus boycott. Co-organized by the Emergency Committee on the Transportation Crisis and the Nash Memorial Methodist Church, van and car drivers placed these signs on their cars to indicate that they would offer free rides to individuals participating in the bus boycott.
Your comments are welcome below. Did you, family members or neighbors offer rides to participants in the boycott? Is this your van? Do you recognize this street? Did you get a ride from a van or car driver? Do you still have a sign? You may comment privately here.
