#OTD 31 December 1968 Taquiena Boston (14) writes the last entry in her 1968 diary:
“Last day of the year. Talked to Esther. Watched television. Listened to the radio. Saw Mod Squad. Pizza for lunch. Up late to see the new year come in. Had party with just family. This has been a hard year. It was full of disappointment, heartbreak and tragedy. The assassinations, riots, deaths, invasions on the freedom of other countries. More wars. More poverty. More violence. Capture of the Pueblo. God, please make the next year be better. Another year of growing. I hope that I have learned from the past mistakes—mine and the world. Another idol lost. I feel empty. I feel desolate. Why so many losses, especially of good people. What’s next? I hope no more of this. Time to say goodbye. This is it. So long 1968! God, please help the new year.”
