10 feb 1968 & dc youth orchestra
#OTD Saturday 10 February 1968 the DC Youth Orchestra had its regular Saturday morning practice at Coolidge HS (6315 5th St, NW). The orchestra, founded in 1960, had ~100 members from 30 DC schools. Lyn G. McLain was the director.
The orchestra was preparing for a “special instructional concert” for 2,000 students from nine elementary schools. The orchestra members would play compositions by Brahms, Prokofiev and Washburn, and also demonstrate select instruments.
In addition to the youth orchestra, there was the DC Youth Orchestra program, which provided free musical instruction to more than 500 students by ~20 faculty members.
