#OTD Monday 5 February 1968 Washingtonians were excited that Spingarn HS alum Dave Bing, of the Detroit Pistons, helped his team defeat the Baltimore Bullets, 117-115, the night before. With just 35 seconds left in the game, Bing scored a basket that put the Pistons in the lead. Bing was the Pistons' #1 draft pick, 1967 Rookie of the Year and leading scorer in 1968.

A 1963 Spingarn graduate, Bing returned in the 1967-1968 school year, to speak to students. While there, he was filmed for a documentary, "Man, He Can Do It All,"  written and narrated by Maury Povich and directed by Bob O'Connor. It aired on WTTG Channel 5 in January 1968.
