19 march 1968 & marion barry buf membership card
OTD 19 March 1968 Marion Barry received his Black United Front membership card. The Black United Front was founded on 9 January 1968 to bring disparate civil rights/Black Power groups together to organize collectively toward freedom and justice in the city. Marion Barry, as co-founder and head of Pride Inc., a youth-centered economic development organization, joined BUF.
Barry was the 8th person to receive an official membership card. Stokely Carmichael, BUF chairperson and co-founder, signed the card. Membership was good from one year of execution date. Lulu Stroud, BUF secretary, probably administered the card to Barry.
