6 march 1968 & mckinley tech hs art department
#OTD Tuesday 6 March 1968 McKinley Tech High School (151 T St, NE) Art Department majors worked on their many projects. The art majors included Creed Adams, Linda Boyd, Yvonne Gallimore, Ernest Green and Linda Mann. Below is the Art Department excerpt from the yearbook.
"McKinley's Art Department this year allowed the students to experiment in various media in order to express themselves better.
In the beginning of the year, many students did landscapes of the city as viewed from the football field. They also did figure drawings and still lifes in pencil. Later on in the year, the students broke up into groups to use other materials. Some worked in ceramics and water colors, others did oil paintings, still others did collages and experimented with textures. Some students drew with chalk and charcoal, some did ink paintings, many did metal etchings.
The whole department helped to make the beautiful decorations and props that were used for the Christmas assembly. They did this during class time as well as their regular projects, often carrying their classwork home to complete it.
The head of the department, Mr. Sam Gilliam, was on leave from McKinley this year to work on his paintings, some of which were on display downtown. Several art majors made trips to view his work."
