18 april 1968 & national epicureans

#OTD-ish 18 April 1968 The Washington chapter of the National Epicureans, Inc, a social and service organization founded in 1951, became the first club in the city to become a life member of the National Urban League (NUL). Katherine W. Cole, former president of the national organization, was president of the DC chapter. The organization also became a life member of the NAACP at the tune of $500.

The photo above was taken in 1960 at a 50th anniversary celebration of the NUL held at 1811 Benning Road, NE.

Your comments are welcome below. Were you or someone in your family a member of the Epicureans? Do you have photos/ephemera from the organization? Did you attend the ceremony when Sterling Tucker Cole gave the organization a membership plaque? Do you remember Katherine W. Cole? What was at 1811 Benning Rd NE, in 1960? You may comment privately here.
