24 april 1968 & building housing for resurrection city
#OTD 24 April 1968 The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), lead organizer of the Poor People’s Campaign, began to build housing for the anticipated Resurrection City on the National Mall. At this point, the SCLC had probably not secured a permit for its encampment for individuals and families committed to ending poverty in the U.S. However, the SCLC planned to build and encamp even if the permit was not granted.
