8 july 1968 & the 70 bus

#OTD-ish 8 July 1968 An unnamed passenger pays her fare and waits for the bus driver, Homer Drye, to give her a transfer. They are on the 70 bus, which traversed Georgia Avenue. Bus fare was 25 cents for adults and 10 cents for children. A four-pack of tokens cost 98 cents.

Notice the fare box. Notice the bus driver uniform included a hat.

Your comments are welcome below. Did you, family members and neighbors ride the 70 bus in 1968? What do you remember about it? Do you recognize the passenger? Did you know Homer Drye? You may comment privately here.

I recently met Paul Delaney at a monthly gathering of journalists, co-organized by Richard Prince. I look forward to talking further with Mr. Delaney about being a journalist in 1968.
