#OTD-ish 31 August 1968 Phil Portlock, who began in 1968 what would be a life-long commitment to photography, captured a butterfly with his camera at the National Arboretum.

Today, I am thinking about and in solidarity with the individuals in public and private prisons who are on strike.

Your comments are welcome below. Did you, family members or neighbors visit the Arboretum? What was your favorite spot? Do you have photographs? What do you see in this photograph? How does this photograph make you feel? What is the place of this kind of beauty in our visual memory and understanding of 1968? What kind of flowers are these? You may comment privately here.
