9 august 1968 & 7 students receive mlk memorial scholarships to university of maine

#OTD 9 August 1968 The University of Maine announced that seven students from DC Public Schools were awarded full scholarships in honor of and as a memorial to the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The university selected seven students who applied to Federal City College but were not selected via the lottery.

The 7 students were:
Brenda Jean Billingsley, Eastern HS
Frances J. Dick, Eastern HS
Ronald T. Handon, McKinley HS
Deborah Y. Roddey, Spingarn HS
Doris L. Sykes, Spingarn HS
James D. Vick, Spingarn HS
JoEllen Theresa Woodland, Eastern HS
