#OTD-ish 26 September 1968 #waybackwednesday The National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, Inc. founded the Women’s Health and Guidance Center (1114 O Street, NW) in November 1959.
“It is an information center, providing health education, diagnoses, and guidance services. The center is not a clinic. It does refer persons in need of clinical services.”
“At the Women’s Health and Guidance Center, women may discuss with experts problems ranging from pre-natal care to home management. There is no charge for this service. In addition to its services for women, the Center provides a complete health education program for youth, particularly teen-agers.”
Staff included:
Dorothy D. Watts, Director (Howard University)
Katherine James, Health Educator (National Tuberculosis Association)
Mabel K. Staupers, Community Relations (Graduate Nurses Association)
Eunice Henderson, Field Worker (Howard University)
Thelma Chaney, Dr. Lena F. Edwards and Dr. Ruth B. Jefferson served as consultants.
