Roberta Flack
Roberta Flack's first album, First Take, was recorded in 1969. Its roots go back to her November 1968 Atlantic audition and the many years she spent in DC as a Howard University music student, as a DCPS music teacher and a performer.
Her early years at Mr. Henry's (601 Pennsylvania Ave, SE) are legendary. She also performed at the Tivoli Club or Theater, and the 1520 Club.
According to Wikipedia, she taught at Browne Junior High and Rabaut JH. (Alas, there's no citation.)
Who had Roberta Flack as a music teacher? Who remembers hearing her perform? Do you have tickets, photos, video?
