happy black history month!!!
DC is the home of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History and Negro History Week, which was started in 1926.
This is the first installment of Black History Month posts.
These images come from the Evening Star newspaper Action Line column on 5 October 1968. "B.A" is a teacher seeking the lyrics to "Lift Every Voice and Sing" so that she can teach them to her students. I love that ASNLH was the resource for her request. I would also love to see a copy of "Suggestions for the Teaching of Negro History, 1968." I wonder what else is in there and if/how the pamphlet changed from the year before and the year after 1968.
Do you remember celebrating Negro History Week at school?
