#OTD 10 November 1968 The Wheeler Liquor Store (4137 Wheeler Rd, SE) billed itself as the “Last Stop in D.C.” Nearby was a branch of the National Bank of Washington (4201 Wheeler Rd, SE) and a supermarket run by Project Progress.

On 21 July 1969, after a 15 year old was arrested by a Prince Georges County police officer and placed in a police car, her friends and neighbors surrounded the car and demanded that she be released. They were tear gassed by the police and several were arrested. The 15 year old was taken to a juvenile detention center in Upper Marlboro, MD.

Your comments are welcome below. Do you, family members or neighbors remember the arrest of the 15 yr old and the attempt to free her? Do you remember the juvenile detention center? What do you remember about it? Do you have photographs? Do you remember the Wheeler Liquor Store? Did you shop there? Do you remember the bank branch? Do you remember the supermarket?
