30 september 1968 & 4 students at smith college
#OTD 30 September 1968 Forty-five students from the city (and suburbs) were excited about entering Smith College as first-year students. Four of the students, in the photograph above, stand in front of Grecourt Gates on Smith’s campus. One of them may be Gerry Whitted, a graduate of Roosevelt High School, who was featured in an Evening Star newspaper article about Smith in 1968.
On 12 September, the Smith College Club of Washington held a tea for the entering students, one of a number of events that the club sponsored throughout the year.
Your comments are welcome below. Are you in this photograph? Do you, family members or neighbors recognize anyone in the photograph? Did you know Gerry Whitted? Were you one of the 45 students? Did the Smith College Club of Washington have an office? Did you attend the tea? Did you attend Smith College? You may comment privately here.
