dc africana archives project
The DC Africana Archives Project has recently released finding aids from recently processed collections from archives throughout the city. There are collections from the DC Archives, DC Public Library, the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center @Howard University, the Archives Center @National Museum of American History, the Historical Society of Washington, DC and the Special Collections @George Washington University.
Dr. Doretha Williams, pictured above, was the project director. Learn more about her here. According to the project's Tumblr page, Dr. Williams and her team processed more than 100 collections! Check out the collections here.
I used one of the collections from the DC Archives, containing materials on surveillance of demonstrations, individuals and organizations, in January and blogged about it here.
thank you Dr. Williams & team!
A big thanks also goes to Francine Henderson, former head of Special Collections @GWU. If I remember correctly, she had been working toward this at least since the early 2000s.
